Fauna and flora

Natura 2000

Thanks to the diverse range of habitats and landscapes they offer, the alluvial valleys of the Scarpe and Escaut - the real backbones of this exceptional territory - are home to a remarkable biodiversity which is largely behind the “Regional Nature Park” certification. Whether in relation to fauna or flora, the presence of numerous heritage species reflects the great importance of conserving the areas in which they are found. In order to assess the evolution of the Park’s biodiversity in terms of the implementation of its new charter, a list of some 120 species emblematic to the RNP and in great need of conservation has been drawn up with the assistance of various regional experts.
