The Scheldt

The territory of the Regional Nature Park is structured around the Scarpe and the Escaut. The channelled Escaut flows through the Regional Nature Park for approximately 25 kilometres to the Belgian border, making its mark on the landscape, on economic activities, natural spaces, and the living environment. As a major territorial corridor and a structural axis for economic development, notably through commercial shipping, the stakes in terms of reconciling human activities and preserving nature are high, and include a strong cross-border dimension.
